I loved this article. It reminds me of when on Food Detectives, they conducted an experiment on the five second rule. They went out in NYC and brought a stopwatch and timed the food on the ground for 5 seconds. They did the same in Ted Allen's office and the food lab. They came up with the same results, though.

It is very disgusting that the five second rule is not true. I also learned a lot about salmonella and how it grows.

Wow! I thought that if you pick it up really fast then it wouldn't pick up anything. But I learned that even if you keep some food on a surface that doesn't look contaminated or accidentally drop a piece of food and pick it up right away, it could pick up enough bacteria to make you sick. A common bacteria to pick up is Salmonella, which can make some REALLY sick and cause terrible side effects. I better tell some friends that they shouldn't depend on the five second rule!!

I will never follow the five-second rule ever again! I always wondered if bacteria attached to food as soon as it hits the surface, or if it takes longer. Now I know. And now I'm grossed out. Eeww, salmonella! I agree with nathan that it is very gross that the 5 second rule is not true. And to think of all the things I've eaten under that rule! EEEEEEEWWWWWWW again!

I thought that this article was very informative, and taught me a lot about how Salmonella can get you very sick. I hope that in the past when I followed the 5 second rule, there was nothing that has gotten me sick. I have learned a lot.
