Great job on the blog! The article on the new basketball in the NBA was interesting. It has me thinking - imagine how many new or clean balls they will need to use during a game so the plastic isn't slippery on their sweaty hands! I think more experimentation is needed and they should stick to the leather ones for the time being.
I think having a new game ball is very helpful for the teams. It's hard to judge which one works better without using the ball at all. I found more information on the new plastic ball at www.nba.com/news/blackbox_060628.html
At first I thought that the synthetic leather ball was going to be easier to use than the leather. I was wrong. It seems that the NBA should stick with the original basketball.
I think the plastic balls would be terrible in a real championship basketball game. The leather balls seem like a better choice. The synthetic ones might be good for the first ten minutes, then they'd be completely useless. The NBA really should consider keeping the old balls. What I'd like to know is if there's a third choice? Or what about using the plastic ball the first half of the game, then switching to a leather one?
I agree with staying with the leather balls until scientists have done further research. It could be a problem when you sweat and the ball becomes more slippery. I think basketball at the NBA level is more of a spectators game and more turnovers would be the opposite of what fans want.
i don't think that they should use a leather ball. I think that a plastic ball would make the game more interesting. sort of like watching the olympics when everybody's walking in the hundred meter. with the plastic ball, you can have the ball going around the court and the game will be so much more interesting. that way the game will focus more on doing things that keep the ball off the ground and the game will go much quicker, and there will be new marks set for skill
I think that it will slow the game down if they constantly have to replace the ball through out the game. It would wast a lot of money and ball to have to replace them constantly. Plus if you sweat to much it could mess the whole game up. I think sticking with leather balls is a better idea, for the game and team.
Awesome Blog. It is so interesting to me that the silicon wont slip. I acutual think that the leather balls were easier to shoot because now the silicon/plastic balls will be sticky on your hands. I think that many of the players will have to change their form if they switch the ball. I am happy the NBA is reconsidering.
I believe that the NBA should use leather balls for now because they have worked well in the past and it would be very inconvenient to have to clean ore switch balls during a basketball game.
I suggest this is not a very good idea. I mean even though it helps, when the players get swetty it would most likely to slip. This isn't so great because the players sweat fast.
I think that we should just stick with the leather ball because if you think of it, the game will go faster than with a plastic ball because you wouldn't have to pause the game to get another ball. So basically the game would go longer and it is more time for the players to get weaker. So in my opinion, stick to the leather ball and just keep playing basketball the way we have been playing it for years.
I think they should stay with the leather balls because they are easier to control. If the new ball some how becomes easier to control, I think they should see which one they like better.
Hi miss g! this article was really interesting! We never knew plastic balls had much difference from leather balls. We think they should go back to leather balls because they are wasting plastic. this is our favorite article!
Plastic balls would change b-ball's player's games. It would be good for the first five minutes, but then the ball would make the game look like the players were making fools of themselves. This is not a good idea.
Um. No. The plastic balls are a waste of money and they will waste time during the game because of how much the players sweat. If you combine how much sweat all the players sweat in a game it'll probably equal up to a gallon of sweat (that's a guess) or around there so the NBA would have to waste a lot of money on theballs. They would have to use like... I don't know 35 BALLS in ONE game! A ridiculous idea, just stick with the leather, it's a better idea.
