That's really cool! I'm not allergic to peanuts, but I know many people who are allergic. I think the way it works is that by introducing the food item that causes the reactions in small amounts "teaches" your body that the item is not poisonous. In simpler terms, you could compare it to bacterial resistance.
This is new cure sounds very helpful. I have heard of cures for allergic reactions to bees that are similar to this. They take a small amount of the bee venom and gradually expose patients to it.
I am truly happy that there is a cure for peanuts. Peanuts are in a lot of foods, mostly the delicious ones. Like peanut butter jelly sandwich. I think that by feeding kids peanut their body sort of gets used to it little by little allowing the body to consume more and more peanuts. The kids' that were cured must be so happy to be able to eat peanuts. I hope in the future they will cure all the food allergies.
I think it is really helpful that there is a cure for peanuts! And I know there are many people that are allergic to peanuts. But now there is a cure and people will not get as many allergic reactions!!
we're sooooo happy that we may soon be able to cure Alexis and others of peanut allergies. Plus, we may soon be able to eat peanuts and other nuts at school again! The reason I think this works is because your body becomes immune to the small amounts they are exposed to. For example, snake charmers inject themselves with poison, but not enough to kill themselves, so if they are bitten by the snake, they won't die or get seriously ill. This was interesting!
im glad that scientist are working on a plan to help people and their allergies. the scientists are using a vaccine technique where you gradually expose the person to small traces of the virus/allergy so the person can develop antibodies against the virus. im not allergic to peanuts but if they perfect this cure, they can create more allergy cures using this method. and hopefully we can bring back nuts into the school!
I am very glad that peanut allergies are getting cured. I think it is very clever to introduce a small amount of of peanuts to the people who are allergic. Peanuts are in many popular foods, and sometimes people will eat them unintentionally because they are mixed in. That is very dangerous. I hope this cure is used and people who have peanut allergies can eat food with out having to be so cautious!
It would be a big step for medicine if doctors and scientists could cure allergies. I wonder if they are just finding a cure for peanut allergies, or all allergies... I'm sure that the cure will help the doctors find other cures for other allergies. Peanuts are one of the allergies that a lot of people have, and I even know some people that are allergic to them. And, like the article said, they can be deadly. So, its great that they are finding a cure!
I think it is a great technique that the scientists are gradually introducing proportions of peanuts into people's diets. If they started out by giving someone a big dose of peanuts in they're food, the person would get very sick and could even die. But, I wonder why when scientists introduce slowly it does not have as much affects on the person as if they just give peanuts to them.
Oh My God! That is so cool that a possible way to cure this extreme allergy was to actually take small doses of nuts! When I think about it, it seems like that would hurt the person with the allergy because each time, they should have an allergic reaction. If this is actually true, people should build some hospitals with a special section for curing serious allergies, and the people that are working in that section should have cups of every common serious allergy. If scientists ever actually think of idea like this, most people can finally eat their first ever peanut butter and jelly sandwich! I hope some scientists start to consider this thought also because there are some people with peanut allergies at Mirman, and that has always prevented everybody from bringing in a nut product to school so I could finally have the delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch! I really hope this idea will work.
I've heard of this, and sometimes it works, but for those who are EXTREMELY allergic to peanuts, this could make their condition worse. This kind of testing has been used for other things also. One example is not for the better. There once was this lady who didn't like her husband, so she decided to poison him. She gradually introduced rat poison to herself, and once she was able to digest a large quantity of it, she dumped a bottle of it into the dinner she was making. When they ate, the man was unable to eat such a big amount of poison, so he died. His wife on the other hand, was used to the amount of poison, and lived. I have mixed feelings about this kind of experiment, but I hope many kids like me, who have food/peanut allergies, are cured of their "problem". PS to Nina+Sarah, thanks for including me...

I think that this approach is really cool. I have heard about this cure in the news paper its also used for multiple other allergies.
